Leukemia Treatment (Blood Cancer) and India as a preferred destination for treatment.

Leukaemia Treatment In India

Leukemia begins in the immature cells of the bone marrow in the central cavities of bones. The bone marrow produces all types of blood cells: red blood cells that carry oxygen and other materials to the tissues of the body, white blood cells that fight infection, and platelets that help the blood clot. Hundreds of billions of new blood cells are produced in the bone marrow each day, providing the body with a constant supply of fresh, healthy cells. In a patient with leukemia, many of the white blood cells produced in the bone marrow do not mature normally. These abnormal cells, called leukemic cells, are unable to fight infection the way healthy white cells can. As they accumulate, the leukemic cells also interfere with the production of other blood cells. Eventually, the body has too few red cells for supplying oxygen to the body's tissues, too few platelets for proper clotting and too few healthy white cells for fighting infection. As a result, people with leukemia are at risk for bruising, bleeding and infections.

What are the types of Leukaemia?

The main types of leukemia are myelogenous and lymphocytic, and each type has an acute (rapidly progressing) and a chronic (slowly progressing) form. Acute leukemia mainly affects cells that are immature, or not fully developed, preventing them from maturing and functioning normally. Chronic leukemia develops more slowly, so that the body still has some healthy cells available to fight infection.

  • Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) - Acute myeloid leukemia is the most common type of leukemia in adults, although it also can occur in children. If untreated, this form of leukemia usually progresses quickly.
  • Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) - Chronic myeloid leukemia originates from the presence of a genetic abnormality in blood cells, called the Philadelphia chromosome, and progresses through distinct phases. CML occurs mainly in adults, but a very small number of children also develop this disease.
  • Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) - Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is the most common type of leukemia in young children in developed countries, but it also affects adults, especially those ages 65 and older. ALL starts in the inner part of the bones, known as bone marrow, but often moves quickly into the blood.
  • Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) - Chronic lymphocytic leukemia usually gets worse slowly. CLL is the second most common form of leukemia in adults and rarely occurs in children. More than half of people diagnosed with CLL are older than 70, and cases rarely occur in individuals younger than 40.

OVERVIEW

As its name suggests, this type of cancer affects the production and function of your blood cells. This type of cancer starts in bone marrow which is the integral source of blood production. Stem cells in your bone marrow mature and develop into three types of blood cells: red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets. In case of cancer, the blood production process is interrupted due to the growth of an abnormal type of blood cell. The various types include Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma.

How the Bone Marrow Functions

Bone marrow is the soft, spongy center of your bone where blood is produced. Marrow is filled with blood-producing cells, called stem cells, which develop into mature white blood cells, red blood cells or platelets. White blood cells of various kinds make up part of your immune system for fighting infections.Red blood cells are responsible for carrying oxygen throughout your body.Platelets clot your blood to prevent bleeding. Stem cells are constantly being produced by your bone marrow, and will develop into the types of cells your body needs.

Blood Cancer

Leukeamia is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. Normally all blood cells are produced by the bone marrow (the spongy area in the middle of bones) in a controlled fashion. All leukaemias have in common property that the leukaemia cells are abnormal and do not respond to normal control mechanisms. Large numbers of leukaemia cells build up as they multiply or because they live much longer than normal cells, or both. With many leukaemia cells in the bone marrow, they spill out into the bloodstream.

What is Blood Cancer?

Leukemia or Blood Cancer is a condition when the Reticulocyte which generally consists of 1% of the total white blood cells multiply rapidly and corrode the ability of Bone Marrow to produce red blood cells and platelets. The rapidly multiplying immature white blood cells impair growth of healthy white blood cells. Since these immature cells grow rapidly, they become more in number than the healthy ones, quite gradually. Leukemia or blood cancer affects more men than women, generally. It is a sad fact that lots of children are also affected by leukemia, it affects mostly adults, though. It also holds true that there are many different types of treatments for this disease. These treatments are highly effective and help the patient effectively get rid of the disease.

About Leukaemia Cancer

Leukaemia is a cancer of blood cells. It begins in the bone marrow which are the soft tissues inside the bones. Most often, it is a cancer of white blood cells but some leukaemia start in other blood cells types. It produces abnormal white blood cells called leukaemia cells. These abnormal blood cells grow faster than normal blood cells and do not stop when they are supposed to.
